Kinds of Noun

 There are  8 types of nouns in English grammar proper, common, concrete, abstract, collective, compound, countable and uncountable nouns. It will help you recognise. 


Common noun

A common noun is a non-specific person, place, or thing. For example, cat, girl, and country are examples of common nouns. 


Proper noun

A proper noun is a specific name for a particular person, place, or thing. Proper noun begins with capital letters.

For example, Mona, United Arab Emirates,

Iqbal Park.


Concrete noun

A concrete noun is a noun that can be identified through one of the five senses (taste, touch, sight, hearing, or smell)

For example, flowers, pencils, milk, river, music.


Abstract noun

Abstract nouns represent ideas and thoughts things you can't perceive with the five main senses. Words like love, time, beauty, and anger are all abstract nouns because you can't touch them or see them.


Collective noun

A collective noun refers to a group that is taken as a whole. For example, bunch, flock, team. These words can be used with people or things.


Compound noun

A compound noun is made up of two or more words. For example, football, playground, blackboard.


Countable noun

Anything that can be counted in numbers is called a countable noun whether it is singular or plural. For example, girl/girls, pet/pets, flag/flags, man/men.


Uncountable noun

Anything that can not be counted in numbers is called an uncountable noun.

For example, water, courage, liquid, gases.

You can not use "a" or "an" before this noun.
